Dinner in Granada

Instead of a sit-down dinner, we decided to try tapas last night.  Our guide recommended Diamante ("Diamond"), so we strolled over there. At 8:25pm the little narrow hole-in-the-wall bar was not yet open.  We waited patiently along with a few others.

When it finally opened there was a mad rush to get inside. The place was empty one minute and packed the next.

We managed to find a little space for the 8 of us and started ordering from the bartender. He was quite talented, somehow managing to keep track of what we ordered while doing the same for everybody else up and down the bar.  He passed the plates over the heads of other patrons to get them to our tables.

The food was delicious and came out surprisingly fast -- a very different experience from the long, slow sit-down meals.  Most of it was lightly battered and then fried: fried anchovies, fried calamari, fried vegetables, fried chicken, etc.. Also some tasty tuna in garlic, mussels, and boiled shrimp. (With heads!. Did you know shrimp have heads?).

We managed to finish dinner before 10pm, which we liked a lot better. In the morning we're off to Ronda by bus.

I am finally reading your blog. Yes, shrimp have heads and in Spain they serve them with the eyes and feelers. I felt guilty eating them.
